It was just so obvious. And to think nobody else but her had noticed it. They were made for each other. Each time they sat together, she could just about hear the sparks crackling. She thought about the endless arguments she'd been having with the other members of the ER mailing list. Could it be that they were all so blind? It was time she wrote a fanfic story which would show the others what she was aiming at. Anyway, with her medical background it would be a cinch getting around all the medical terminology. To think about some of the horrendous mistakes some people made, and those were usually the writers who just happened to miss the beautiful bond between her fave twosome. With determination she sat down and began typing away her thoughts. The story just seemed to flow out of her. She felt encompassed by it as if in a trance. She described with precise detail how the beautiful relationship was strengthened stage by stage until the sexual tension was resolved, and the two finally realised their destiny. Within an hour she was done. She let out a deep sigh of satisfaction. Now all that was left was to send it out, but to her utter horror, when she tried to connect to the net she was unable to do so. Hysterically, she called her ISP only to find out that of all the times in the world, now was the time her modem decided to retire. She sat on her couch, moving gradually from 'huff&puff' mode, to 'gnarl' mode and finally to desperate pouting. This was *so* unfair! Then she thought of an idea. Then she thought better of it. Then she thought that if she was not going to be able to send it tonight, she would go mad. It was silly, she knew, but she just couldn't control herself. "Oh, brother," she muttered and dialed his number. "Mulder?" "Scully?" his voice betrayed his surprise. God, how on Earth would she be able to explain it to him? "Errrr... listen.... errr...." Damn! "What's wrong?" "Can I, ummm.... can I come over and use your email tonight?" The moment she said it, she regretted it. A few awkward seconds of silence passed until he spoke. "S-sure..." "Thanks." She said and opted to explain herself to him once she arrived, which actually meant she needed the ride to his place to figure out what she'd actually say to him. ................................. Fox Mulder jumped at the sound of the expected knock on the door. He quickly got up and unlocked it. His partner seemed a little too anxious for his liking, but he decided he'd give her the chance to explain herself without him having to ask. He hoped she'd do it soon, though, or he'd be forced to drag it out of her for his own peace and quiet. "Hi," she smiled awkwardly. He smiled back, adding a questioning look to his smile. The awkwardness didn't seem to lift off. She stood at the door, a nervous smile on her face. Then she lowered her gaze and he followed it with his eyes, until he noticed the 1.44" diskette she was holding. Finally he snapped out of his awkward stance and proffered his hand as he directed his own gaze towards the diskette. "May I..?" She almost jumped at his remark. "What?" she asked with surprise. "Oh. This," she waved the diskette in her hand absentmindedly. "Do you mind if I send it on my own? It's kinda private." Mulder resisted the urge to gnarl. "Sure. No problem." Her relief was visible, and it only served to make Mulder even more anxious. Three quarters of an hour later, Scully bid him farewell and left. The moment he locked the door behind her Mulder dashed to his computer, desperately trying to find out whatever it was that his partner needed to send so urgently but couldn't tell him what it was. "Damn!" He slammed his hand on his desk grudgingly. She'd deleted it. Knowing that, unless he knew what this was all about, he would go insane, he decided to go for the more aggressive approach. He walked over to the phone and pressed no. 3 in his auto-dial numbers. "Lone Gunmen. You have been warned: Everything you are saying is being recorded," chirped the answering machine. "Frohike!" Mulder yelled. "Frohike! Wake up!" He waited in silence, the only sound that of his own heavy breathing. Finally somebody answered him from the other side of the line. "Mulder?" A panting Frohike answered. "What's wrong?" Mulder wondered why it had taken Frohike so long to answer. He certainly didn't sound like he'd been sleeping. When he gave the matter a little more thought he decided that he really didn't want to know. It might damage his brain forever. "Listen, I really need you to check something up for me. Scully was here just a few minutes ago. She wanted to use my email to send something, but she didn't want to tell me what it was and why it was so urgent. Could you do me a favour, tap into my account and find out what it was?" After a few silent moments Frohike answered. "Sure... is there a problem?" "I don't know. It's just driving me mad. Can you do it now?" "Errrr...." Frohike hesitated. "I'm kinda tied up at the moment..." "Please," Mulder begged, brushing aside the naughty thoughts that Frohike's tying business had conjured. He heard Frohike sigh. "OK, OK," he gave up. "I'll call you in ten minutes." And with that he hung up. Those seemed like the longest ten minutes he'd ever had to endure, but true to his word, by the time ten minutes were up, Frohike called. "Well?" Mulder asked impatiently. Frohike opened his mouth and began speaking but nothing he said came out as coherent sentences. "Your... Yo...Hehehe.... HAHAHA..." Mulder was baffled. "Frohike?" He was a ball of knots and it seemed like Frohike had conspired with his partner to have him committed before the age of 40. "S...s...so...sorryy..." Frohike managed to choke out. "WHAT?!" "I tell you Mulder, your partner is alright," he finally managed to say. "I think me and her, we could make a great team." "WHAT?!" Mulder wasn't sure he was hearing right. "You and Scully? What do you mean?" "Well, some people are blind to this obvious fact, but not your partner. She caught on to it straight away." "What fact???" If Frohike didn't give him a straight answer now he was gonna make sure he was never tied up again! "Well, the obvious fact that Doug Ross and Mark Greene were made for each other." -------------------------------------------- THE END EVIL GRIN -- >-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-< Fanfic: http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Set/2571/ Backgrounds: http://members.tripod.com/~BG_compulsion/index.htm The following page was updated [16.2.98] Backgrounds: http://www.fortunecity.com/victorian/conway/90/index.htm >-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-<>-< "If you want to know who you are, it's important to know who you've been" - Jadzia Dax, "Equilibrium" "I was just here.
