Intro: This is not my plot. Deeksha came up with the plot and asked me to write it for her. This was over a month ago, and I feel so incredibly guilty about not getting it done sooner. Sorry. Forgive me? Shameless self promotion: I run an Ally McBeal webpage. I'm not sure anyone here watches it, but here's the address: http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/set/7354 Anyone who does watch the show: You know the twins on there? Well I know them! I know you care so much. And my homepage is still at: http://www.geocities.com/athens/forum/3534 Sorry for any spelling mistakes, English is not my first language. Well, it really is. But somehow that sounds better than "actually, I just suck". _.-`'`-._.-`'`-._.-`'`-._Dana Scully's Apartment Dana Scully ran around her apartment throwing things into a black duffel bag. She heard a knock at her door. "Come in!" she called, already knowing who it was. "Hey, Scully," Dana's partner, Fox Mulder walked in the door. "Are you ready?" "No," she said, sounding annoyed. "It would have helped to have a little more notice." "Sorry about that," he said apologetically. "Okay, I'm ready. Let's go." _.-'``-._.-'``-._.-'`'-._ Flight 929 Dana was sitting next to Mulder reviewing the case file. A serial murder case involving defense lawyers who's clients had been charged with drug possession. There was nothing paranormal that Dana could see. She glanced at her partner. Dana couldn't help but notice the way his hair fell over his forehead and the way his lower lip stuck out ever so slightly when he was concentrating and the way his gorgeous hazel eyes- woah! Stop that train of thought. "Mulder?" Dana asked. "Yeah?" Mulder looked up from the latest issue of The Lone Gunmen. "What will we do when we get to New York?" Mulder had made all of the travel arrangements, Dana had no clue as to where exactly they were going. "Well, we have to check into our hotel and then we'll have just enough time to visit the crime scene. You can do the autopsy tomorrow." Dana glanced at the file. "33 Corgan Street?" "That's right." "And what exactly is there?" "It's a law firm. Tim Bjanka was murdered in his office." "Were there any witnesses?" "No. Nobody heard a thing." _.-'`'-._.-'`'-._.-'`'-._ 33 Corgan Street "Dana!" Dana turned her head in the direction of the voice. It couldn't be. . . Not after all these years. "Omigod! Terry!" "Dana! I haven't seen you in so long!" cried a tall, blonde man rushing towards her. Dana threw her arms around him and gave him a kiss. "What are you doing here?" he asked, returning the kiss. "I'm investigating the murder. I'm an FBI agent! I had no idea I was going to see you here!" Suddenly, she remembered her partner. "Ah. . . Mulder. This is Terry Gaudio. We, ah, went to high school together." Mulder was stunned. Scully seemed genuinely happy to see her high school "friend". And Mulder was incredibly jealous. He had never thought of Scully as someone's girlfriend. Except for his. Not that he had ever done anything about it. "Uh, we had better look at the crime scene," said Mulder. "The crime scene!" Dana said as if it had just occurred to her. "Of course." "I have a meeting," said Terry, "so I'm afraid I can't join you." Mulder was secretly relieved. "But, why don't we meet for lunch tomorrow?" "That sounds great." Dana was smiling. Mulder couldn't help thinking. "So I'll see you later?" "Later," Dana echoed as Terry ducked out the door. She stared after him. "Scully?" A million questions were asked with a single word as his hazel eyes locked with hers. "Yes?" She shook her head, as if she were trying to snap out of it. "Who was that guy?" "Oh, that was Terry Gaudio. We went to the same high school." "Were you close?" Dana's smile was almost wicked. "Yeah. . . We were close." "I see." "So let's go see the. . . you know. . . place." "Crime scene." Dana waved her hand dismisively. "Whatever." _.-'`'-._.-'`'-._.-'`'-._ Green Frog Hotel Mulder knocked on the door connecting him to Dana's room. "Scully?" he called. There was no answer. "Scully!" He tried again. The door was unlocked, so he opened it slightly. "Scully, are you here? Are you okay? We have to leave now." Mulder walked into his partner's room. It was empty. He walked over to the table. There was a note taped to the smooth wooden surface: M- Met Terry for breakfast. Meet you there. -S He stared at the note. Scully couldn't ditch him, could she? Mulder looked around the empty room. Apparently she just had. For Terry. He crumpled the note in his hand and left it on the table. _.-'`'-._.-'`'-._.-'`'-._ Fat Cat Cafe Dana laughed. "You didn't!" she cried. Terry could be hilarious sometimes. It felt so good to be out having fun again. She felt like she was back in high school. "Remember when we were in high school and we ditched school to drive out to the city for concert tickets and we got lost?" she was laughing again. "I will never forget that," Terry smiled at her. "'Can we just stop and ask for directions?' 'We are not lost! I know exactly where. . . shit.'" Dana smiled at the memory as their eyes met. Terry's eyes were intense and full of unspoken promises. She opened her mouth to speak. "Scully!" Dana jumped and turned in the direction of the voice. Mulder came over to the table. "Scully. . . Hi." "Mulder. . . What?" Dana was suddenly very annoyed. "We, uh, have an appointment to meet with the, uh, I mean to question the, uh, witness." "I. . . Oh. Uh, Terry. . . Mulder, I- Oh." Dana sighed with frustration. She was getting so confuzzled. All these emotions. . . It was too hard to sort out. "Mulder, could you go without me?" "Oh," he looked disappointed. "I mean, yes." Mulder walked away quickly. Terry smiled at her but looked confuzzled as Dana stood. "I need some time," she explained. "Oh. . . Whatever you need." Terry obviously had no clue what she was talking about. Dana smiled. "Thanks, Terry. Listen, I'll see you around. Okay?" "Yeah. See you around." _.-`'`-._.-`'`-._.-`'`-._Green Frog Hotel Mulder glanced at his watch for what seemed like the hundredth time as he paced the tiny motel room. He had no idea where his partner was. Mulder thought bitterly. He wasn't really sure why the idea bothered him so much. Terry seemed like a nice enough guy. And Scully was so happy when they were together. Scully was obviously better off with Terry. But he loved her so much. . . Why had he never done anything about it? He had just assumed that she would always be there. Mulder sank down onto the bed. If only the past four years had been different. . . If only he had known then how special his partner really was. If only, if only, if only. Well, it was too late for 'if only'. But maybe it wasn't too late for him and Dana. As if on cue, Dana chose that exact moment to knock on Mulder's door. "Come in!" Dana hesitantly opened the door and stuck her head in. "Mulder?" "Dana. Dana, come in. Please come in. Sit down." Dana walked into the room and sat down on the bed. Her hair was messed up and she looked exhausted. Mulder thought appreciatively. "Scully. . ." Mulder began slowly. "Mulder, I'm really sorry," Scully blurted out. "For what?" Mulder was surprised. "For ignoring you when I was with Terry. For leaving you to work on the case alone." Dana looked away. She really felt guilty for the way she had flirted with Terry like Mulder wasn't even there. "Dana," Mulder took her hand. "Dana, it's okay. I deserved it." Now it was Dana's turn to be surprised. "What do you mean?" "I'm the one that's been ignoring you. For the past four years. I really am glad to be working with you, Scully. And you're my best friend. And sometimes it's just hard because. . . I love you, Dana. And I guess I just took it for granted that you would always be there. And I'll understand if you want Terry and I know that I've really screwed up and I'll understand if you-" Dana threw her arms around him. "I love you," she whispered. "Listen, it was great to see Terry again, but I will never leave you. And I realize that I was acting a little. . . flirty. And maybe, subconsciously, I wanted to get on your nerves a little. But then I got so confused. I'm sorry. Forgive me?" Mulder hugged her back and gave her a kiss. "If you forgive me." "Always." "I love you." "I love you, too." She kissed him back. "I just can't believe we wasted the past four years. . ." "They weren't a waste, Mulder. And besides, we have the rest of our lives." He kissed her again. "You're right, we do."
