He looked about the room- gold gilding and magnificent protraits from floor to ceiling, men and women milling about. They were dancing, smiling, wearing incredble costumes. It was a scene out of an early 1800's ball- the women's dresses full, the men's suits gallant and noble. He was amazed at the total grandness of it all. And then he saw her. Across the room- wait! he'd lost her... no, there she was again. The epitome of beauty- firey hair, bright blue diamonds in the place of eyes, and dressed in a glittering golden velvet dress- the most gorgeous being he'd ever come across. Never once taking his eyes off of her, he crossed the ballroom, feeling he could not get to her fast enough. He reached her, finally, and such was his exaltation at beholding this beauty from a distance of but a few feet that he could not help but take her arm in his. She merely stood there, gazing up at him as she might have gazed up at a god. She shyly let him take her arm and escort her into the courtyard of the palace. The stone of the courtyard glittered in the moonlight, the fountain at the center seemed to welcome them with a glorious spurt of silver water. They stopped midway across the stone patio and stood looking wonderingly at each other. He wondered at her beauty, she wondered at the mystery surrounding the man before her. He took her hands in his, still searching her eyes. "Who are you?" They asked in unison. Each gave a small smile, and as he leaned down to kiss her, he suddenly saw not the stranger he thought he beheld, but a woman whom he had known since before the beginning of Time, and the woman with whom he would remain until the end of Time. As soon as their lips touched, Mulder sat bolt upright in his chair. He'd fallen asleep at his computer. "I was wondering when you'd wake up, sleepyhead." Scully sat, still working, across the room. He shook the dream out of his head, somewhat angry that it had, after all, been but a dream. "Hey, Scully?" She didn't look up. "Yes, Mulder?" She asked obediently, only half paying attention. "I love you." She looked up and smiled softly. "I love you too, Fox," she said nonchalantly, and went back to her work.
